Automating your sliding door is about more than just convenience—it’s about security, freedom for your pets, and upgrading your home's accessibility. But before you hit "buy," you likely have one question: “Will it work on my door?”
The good news is that SmartSlydr is designed to be universal. Whether you have a standard slider, a multi-panel system, or a premium brand, we have a solution. SmartSlydr works seamlessly with the most popular brands on the market, including Pella, Andersen, Marvin, Milgard, Jeld-Wen, and many others.
Here is everything you need to know to verify your door and choose the right model.
The "One-Hand Test": Performance Over Weight
Many customers worry that their sliding glass doors are "too heavy" for a motor. At SmartSlydr, we focus on smoothness rather than the literal mass of the door.
Can you open your door with one hand?
If the answer is yes, SmartSlydr should work seamlessly for you.
Understanding Drag Force
Our motors are high-torque systems built to handle resistance:
-
SmartSlydr Capacity: Supports up to 18 lbs of drag force (the pull required at the handle).
-
Typical Doors: Most well-maintained doors require only 5–10 lbs of force.
-
Maintenance Kit Included: Every SmartSlydr comes with a quick cleaning and lubrication kit. If your door feels sticky, a quick track clean can often reduce drag by 50%, making it perfect for automation.
How to Measure Drag Force at Home
The best way to ensure compatibility is to measure the drag force using a common luggage or fish scale.

-
Set the Scale: Set your scale to lbs.
-
Attach: Hook it to the door handle (or use a short strap looped around the handle).
-
The Pull: Pull the scale straight in the direction the door slides.
-
The Reading: Note the display right at the moment the door begins to move.
-
Verify: Repeat 2–3 times and use the highest consistent reading.
Result Guide:
-
0–10 lbs: Perfect! Smooth operation expected.
-
10–18 lbs: Workable. Ensure your track is clean for the best experience.
-
Over 18 lbs: We recommend cleaning, lubricating, or inspecting your rollers before installation.

Built-In Security: Peace of Mind
One of the top concerns with automated doors is security. SmartSlydr is built with safety as a primary feature:
-
Inbuilt Locking Mechanism: SmartSlydr has a native locking system that secures the door when closed.
The Ultimate Pet Door for Every Breed
Traditional flap-style pet doors are often eyesores and security risks. SmartSlydr transforms your actual glass door into a smart pet pass.
-
For All Sizes: Works perfectly for small, medium, and large dogs.
-
Adjustable Widths: You can customize the opening width. Set it to open just a few inches for a Terrier or wide enough for a Great Dane. This saves energy by only opening the door as much as necessary.
Safety First: Advanced Protection
SmartSlydr is designed with the safety of your family and pets as a top priority.
-
Obstacle Detection: The system features an intelligent auto-reverse anti-pinch mechanism similar to a car's power window. If the door encounters any obstruction, it will immediately stop, reverse, and send a notification on the Mobile App.
Brand Compatibility: Pella, Andersen, Jeld-Wen & More
SmartSlydr isn't just for generic sliders. Our mounting systems are tested across the industry's leading brands:
-
Pella
-
Andersen
-
Jeld-Wen
-
Standard Aluminum/Vinyl Sliders
Whether your door moves on the interior track or the exterior track, we have custom adapters (available with the Regal model) to ensure a perfect fit.
How to Manually Open Your Door
We understand that there are times you may want to operate your door by hand—whether during a power outage or just for quick manual access. Every SmartSlydr comes equipped with a manual override system.
Using the Pull Cord
-
Detach: Locate the manual pull cord hanging from the SmartSlydr motor head. Pull it firmly to disengage the motor from the door panel.
-
Slide: You can now slide the door manually just as you did before the installation.
-
Re-attach: By default, the motor head is designed to "self-attach." The next time you trigger the door via the app or remote, the motor will move to find the door and automatically click back into place.
Permanent Manual Mode
If you wish to keep the door in manual mode for an extended period:
-
The Pull Cord Fork: Insert the included "pull cord fork" into the motor head. This prevents the system from self-attaching, allowing the door to remain fully manual until you remove the fork.
